James Henry Williams Jr., 100, of Lincoln, died February 15, 2019. He was born in Los Angeles, CA. to James Henry, Sr. and Addie Myrtle (Blowers) Williams, on July 14, 1918. Professor Emeritus, University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Attended UCLA 2 years; Oregon State University, B.Sc.; Iowa State University. M.S. & Ph.D; Horticulturist, Beverly Hills, CA; farmed in Willamette Valley, OR; Professor of Agronomy 33 years UN-L, researched variety of improvement and production practices of soybeans and other oil seed crops, taught courses in Agronomy. Member of American Society of Agronomy and the Society of Economic Botany. Recognized for research and contributions to agriculture by American Society of Agronomy (Fellow); Gamma Sigma Delta Honor Society Research Award of Merit and the Service to Agriculture Award of Merit, American Soybean Association Production Research Award; Nebraska. Soybean Association and Nebraska Crop Improvement Association. Honorary societies: Alpha Zeta, Gamma Sigma Delta and Sigma Xi. WWII Army Air Corps veteran, flew the unfriendly skies of Europe with 451st Bomb Group, Italy. In youth was an Eagle Scout and later served 10 years as Boy Scout leader in Oregon and in Lincoln; member Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star, and Royal Arch Masons. Charter member of Lincoln Northeast Kiwanis and Golden K Kiwanis; Preceded in death by wife of 63 years, Mary Louise [Heard] Williams. Survivors, sons, William and Robert Williams and granddaughter, Faith Williams, all of Lincoln. Private Memorial service at Eastmont Towers.
